Coldplay star Chris Martin has revealed he is desperate to make the world a better place for his baby daughter Apple.

The singer, who is married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, admits becoming a father last year made him more determined to continue his charity work for Oxfam's Make Poverty History campaign - which aims to abolish Third World debt - for the sake of his eight-month-old daughter.

He said: "Being a new father has made me look at the world differently.
I'm a father who travels a lot and has seen how rich nations, like Britain, exploit poorer ones through crazy trade laws and huge debts.

I want the world to be a better place when my daughter has grown up."

Meanwhile, Martin, 27, has revealed how he nearly died when his plane hit a dust storm as it tried to land at a remote African airstrip.

The 27-year-old rocker is currently in Africa to promote fair trade and says his life flashed before his eyes during the frightening incident.

He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "It was so terrifying. The plane was all over the place. My mind was racing and I thought, 'My daughter will have to get a stepdad.'

"I also thought I haven't written a will, the band haven't finished the album. Then I thought, 'I'll be dying on a fair trade trip so people will always link me with that.' All these things were going through my head."
